Professional Bio

Jayla Moody Marshall is an educator, storyteller, and researcher who thrives at the intersection of these roles. With a deep commitment to engaging higher education students both inside and outside the classroom, Jayla explores their unique stories and strives to facilitate meaningful change.

As a Ph.D. candidate in Educational Leadership, Policy, and Human Development at North Carolina State University, Jayla has been honored with the 2021 Provost Fellowship and the 2024 Chancellor's Creating Community Outstanding Student Award.

Broadly, Jayla’s scholarship empowers marginalized students' voices and narratives to foster more inclusive spaces in higher education. Her work critically questions the outcomes of higher education, considering students' purposes, hopes, and dreams and examining who possesses the privilege to pursue these concepts. To date, her work has been funded by the NC State College of Education and The Dr. Melvin C. Terrell Educational Foundation.

With expertise in student success, advising, training, and higher education communications, she is also an accomplished speaker and writer. Jayla believes in the power of storytelling to drive change and is passionate about ensuring all students have the support to realize their unique potential.
